Fairfax, VA – September 11, 2013 – For the second year in a row, Shirley employees donated their time to volunteer at the Northern Virginia Ronald McDonald House in Fairfax, Virginia on September 5th and 6th, 2013. Since 1998, the Northern Virginia Ronald McDonald House has served as a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who travel to the area to be treated at hospitals for life-threatening illnesses.
This year the Shirley construction team identified existing sidewalk around the housing grounds that showed either settlement or deterioration issues that could create a hazardous condition for guests or staff. These areas which needed to be repaired, were broken out with a jackhammer and then replaced with new concrete.
“Thank you to your wonderful organization for their much needed help. Shirley folks contribute so much to making our house a home for the families. We could not do what we do without them,” said Claudia Lewis, Director of Community Relations at the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington DC.
