100+ Hours Volunteered In Her First Year

Celebrating Barbara’s Dedication

Recognizing Barbara Newman for 100+ hours of volunteering!

Barbara received the award at the Arlington Cares’Celebration of Volunteerism event for her time spent volunteering at our Ronald McDonald Family Room in Inova Fairfax Hopsital.  She joined seven other 2018 winners being acknowledged for their distinguished service as well as numerous community volunteers who have served 100 hours or more within the past year.

Barbara says she volunteers because, “The Ronald McDonald House was there for my family many years ago and I’m happy I can pay it forward by giving my time to families going through difficult times. My favorite part is being able to give patients a little pick me up, whether that be through a toy, stuffed animal, book, etc. It’s very rewarding to be part of such a great organization.”

Well over 300 attended this event to learn more about local nonprofits and volunteer opportunities.

Lisa Fikes, Executive Director of Volunteer Arlington Leadership Center for Excellence, said: “Volunteer Arlington appreciates Ronald McDonald House, one of our over 190 Nonprofit and County Partners. We value their mission and hope to support their vital work through volunteer engagement.”
