Mixing Ingredients One Meal at a Time

Help ‘Feed the House’ During National Nutrition Month

Put your best fork forward and join Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC) as we continue to celebrate National Nutrition Month this March. In an effort to promote health and wellness, our partners at Giant Food are giving back to the local community by providing the recipes and ingredients that volunteer groups need to keep our Feed the House campaign thriving.

This campaign helps to ease hardships for families who are caring for critically ill children in nearby hospitals by providing them with a varied menu of delicious and nutritious meal options. Feed the House is not only providing hearty meals, but keeping hearts full by providing a sense of comfort and relief for these families.

We recently had the opportunity to bring awareness to Feed the House as Julie Lowe, Director of Marketing and Community Engagement at RMHCDC joined Giant Food Registered Dietician Kristen McGill on Fox 5 DC. Check out the segment below to find out how you can help: https://www.facebook.com/RMHCofDC/videos/483883012146821/

“It’s a natural partnership for us,” said Julie Lowe. “It supports the volunteers, but most importantly supports the families that are spending long days at the hospital. They are away from the house and the last thing they want to think about is, ‘What am I going to make when I get home?’.”

Volunteer groups at RMHCDC will cook for the families using a recipe book developed by Giant Food, which contains 30 days of perfectly portioned meal plans and recipes. In support of the campaign, Giant generously gifted $10,000 in gift cards to help assist with the purchase of these ingredients.

The foundation of good health starts with healthy eating and that’s why National Nutrition Month is the perfect opportunity to be a part of our #FeedTheHouse campaign. Whether it’s selecting healthier options when you’re away from home, being mindful of portion sizes, or even including a variety of fruits and vegetables in your meals. Let’s cook up a healthy lifestyle!

We encourage everyone to get up, get out, and help make a difference for the families who walk through our doors. In preparation for National Volunteer Month, sign up to Feed the House at RMHCDC.org/volunteer. Don’t forget to share your photos using #FeedTheHouse.

We can’t wait to work with you!
