FITNESS (Fun In Teaching Nutrition and Exercise to Successful Students)

Our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is home to the FITNESS Program, a partnership between RMHCDC and the Division of Community Pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as well as local schools, to deliver an innovative nutrition and exercise curriculum to children.

This program partners with local schools to deliver a curriculum focused on healthy eating and the importance of physical activity to students in grades K-8.  Staffed with a Medical Director, Community Educator, Registered Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist and in collaboration with school staff, the goal of the program is to help children and families gain the knowledge, tools, and motivation to potentially achieve better health and to help reduce the incidence of childhood obesity and associated chronic disease.  The FITNESS Program piloted in Washington, DC during the 2017-18 school year, with plans to eventually expand into parts of MD and VA.
