Washington Capitals Help Teach Kids Fun Ways To Stay Active

Washington Capitals players Braden Holtby, Nicklas Backstrom, and Tom Wilson, together with Elliot Segal of the Elliot in the Morning radio show, visited families at Barnard Elementary School.

The evening of fun and learning about healthy eating and exercise was designed to encourage the kids to stay physically active.

The Capitals’ visit to Barnard Elementary included participating in a variety of fun activities with the children as well as identifying healthy foods with the kids and enjoying a healthy snack with them.

They also met with the children’s parents who were learning to prepare nutritious and inexpensive meals.

The Capitals players are part of So Kids Can, a Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation player program created by Elliot Segal, from Elliot In the Morning,  and Caps players to benefit youth-focused, nonprofit organizations.

This year, So Kids Can chose Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Washington, DC as their charity of choice, benefiting our KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® (KMMC/RMCM) program.  Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC) is proud to work in collaboration with Medstar

The KMMC/RMCM serves federally designated health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) in Washington DC by offering comprehensive general pediatric health care services at several sites close to subsidized housing and at an emergency shelter. The KMMC/RMCM visits these locations on a regular schedule, so the children they treat have a trusted medical home.  All children under the age of 21 are eligible for care, whether or not they have medical insurance.

The KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is unique in its holistic approach to providing health care, delivering not only comprehensive primary care but preventive care through education and advocacy.
