Volunteers from a corporate group gather at Ronald McDonald House in Northern Virginia after preparing a home-cooked meal for families. The first photo shows smiling volunteers in red aprons standing behind trays of freshly prepared food; the second shows the same group outside the House, sitting with the Ronald McDonald bench statue, sharing smiles after serving families in need.

Our Houses Are Full — And There’s Always Room for Hope

Rooms are full. Families arrive exhausted and afraid — and find a warm bed, a meal and hope waiting.

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC, staff, volunteers and supporters create this every single day. Their time, care, and generosity keep families close to their children during medical treatment — turning fear into relief and uncertainty into comfort.

Everyday Acts That Make a Difference

Across our Houses in DC and Northern Virginia, ordinary people are doing extraordinary things.

  • In DC, volunteers restocked kitchens, cleaned playrooms, organized donations, and hosted family activities. Partners like Project Sunshine and Howard University’s Rotaract Club brought art, laughter, and breakfast kits that lifted spirits during long hospital days.

  • In Northern Virginia, volunteers and families cooked, cleaned, and connected. Amazon and DLA Piper teams prepared meals and deep-cleaned the House. Student groups baked cupcakes for our Baking Buddies program, while new volunteers jumped right in — organizing donations, tidying shared spaces, and decorating for the season.

This is what your support makes possible — full tables, stocked kitchens, and families who can stay near their child instead of sleeping in a car or hospital waiting room.

A Community That Cares

Generous donors filled our shelves with snacks, hygiene kits, and simple comforts — from CJ’s Pediatric Promise Fund and Georgetown University’s Master of Science in Physiology program to neighbors who dropped off fresh bread, flowers, and care packs.

These gestures — from preparing a meal to mopping a floor — are what keep our Houses full of warmth and hope.

Gratitude and Growth

Our Houses are full — and so is our gratitude. Yet the need keeps growing. Every week, more families knock on our door, hoping for a place to stay close to their child’s care.

Your generosity keeps those doors open, the lights on, and the kitchens humming.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the moment.

Give. Volunteer. Keep families close.
