30 Sep Capitals and Elliot Segal Donate $40,511 to RMHCDC
Washington Capitals players Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, and Tom Wilson, with Elliot Segal of the Elliot in the Morning Show, recently presented RMHCDC with check for $40,511.52.
We are so honored to have had the opportunity to work with Washington Capitals players Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby and Tom Wilson along with Elliot Segal of the Elliot in the Morning Show throughout the 2017-18 hockey season. The players and Elliot recently visited to present us with a generous check totaling $40,511.52, from their various fundraising initiatives and personal donations!
The funds were raised through So Kids Can and will benefit our Kids Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® (KMMC/RMCM), operated in association with Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. Each player and Segal donated $50 per Capitals win during the regular season and $100 per Capitals win during the playoffs, which culminated in a momentous Stanley Cup win for the team! Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation also hosted two auctions benefiting So Kids Can during the season.
About the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®
To show the players and Elliot what their generosity is supporting, we took them on a tour of the KMMC/RMCM, which provided 1,268 patient visits to underserved kids in D.C. Wards 4-8 in 2017. This “doctor’s office on wheels” provides improved access to quality health care where children need it most – in their community. All children under the age of 21 are eligible for care, regardless of their medical insurance status. Free health care services include: primary care, newborn exams, well child visits, immunizations and ophthalmic exams, as well as social service and mental health consultations. The KMMC/RMCM is unique in its holistic approach to providing health care, delivering not only comprehensive primary care but preventive care through education and advocacy.
We wish the Washington Capitals lots of luck with the new season and we can’t wait to Rock the Red in support of our Stanley Cup champions. We are so grateful to have been chosen to partner with So Kids Can last season and want to say a huge thank you to the players, Elliot, and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation for their support and generosity! So Kids Can was created in 2008 by former Capitals defenseman Mike Green and Elliot Segal to benefit youth-focused, nonprofit organizations. Backstrom and former Caps forward Brooks Laich joined the cause in 2011, former Caps defenseman Karl Alzner and Holtby joined in 2015 and Wilson joined in 2017.
