Caring Partner Spotlight: Cotton & Company LLP

Read Board Member and Audit Partner, Loren Schwartz’s story to find out how this small firm is benefiting our families and your community.

Though I volunteered with my children’s youth sports teams, I was ready to make a bigger commitment to my community by using my professional skills as an Audit Partner to give back in a different and unique way. Choosing to join the Board of Directors at RMHCDC was easy, as I have always felt that charities supporting children and families are the foundation to helping our local communities.

“Our firm mission statement as a government contractor is to “serve the public’s interest”. We think this extends beyond the work we do for our government customers to include the charitable work we do as a firm. We want to be a good business partner to our local community and help make it a better place for our friends and families.”

Cotton & Company LLP is a professional services CPA firm, located in Alexandria, VA. We have a charitable committee, called The Giving Committee, which identifies local charities that are good stewards of donor money and coordinates fundraising events to support those charities. At nearly every corporate event we have (staff meetings, holiday parties) we have a charitable component, which the firm sponsors. We also support dollar for dollar employee gift matching.

Through these initiatives, we were already happily contributing a significant amount to RMHCDC.  Combined with the personal donation of one of our partners, this year, we are proud to be a Caring Partner. Being a Caring Partner makes sense for us, as a small company that wants to support charities that directly impact our local community and are good stewards with our charitable donations.

Our entire firm lives and works in the DC metro area – this is our community. This is where we live, work and raise our families.  We want to be a positive contributor to that community.  This was a founding principle of Dave Cotton when he started our firm in 1981 and it continues today.

“Being a Caring Partner makes Cotton & Company LLP feel like a good contributing member of our community!”

Barbara Johnson, one of our former employees, is a volunteer on the Red Shoe 5k committee and at one of the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Inova Children’s Hospital.  With her encouragement, last year Cotton & Company started their first team to support the Red Shoe 5k.

Employee engagement and volunteer opportunities like these are an added benefit to our Caring Partnership, but the best part is that it makes us feel like a good contributing member of our community!  We are happy to be able to give back and help those and look forward to continuing the relationship with RMHCDC.

We are so grateful to Cotton & Company LLP for increasing their support this year and using their mission to impact the lives of families with sick children in such a positive way.  Find out more about our Caring Partner program.
